My New Chapter

Turn the page... ♫

Have you ever picked up a new book and just couldn't wait to open it to the first page and begin the adventure? That's how I'm feeling.

Start it up... ♪

Yes, time to get started. Rev up the tired rusty engines. Fuel up the empty gas tank. Put the career in "D" and zoom on down the highway. Towards my encore career. My new destination.

I'm sooo excited...and I just can't hide it... ♫

My soul feels like singing! Haven't felt this way in a long, long time. Never thought I'd be so happy to say...

 I'VE GOT A JOB! I'VE GOT A JOB! I'VE GOT A JOB!

Ha ha!

I have to keep saying it over and over because it just isn't sinking in right now. It's almost like I'm in a dream and trying to convince myself that its really happening. Maybe I'll feel differently next week, after a few days on the job. But right now, it feels surreal. I feel like someone has put their official stamp of approval across my forehead. I matter. I'm valued. I have worth. I'm wanted.

Here's the scoop:  After hundreds of applications and resumes were sent. After a few unsuccessful interviews. After more than a year of disappointment. I hit the jackpot! My prayers were answered when I was offered a job that I had applied (and hoped!) for. I'll be working for a local university. Working in the Academics Affairs department and with the Director of the Honors Program. Very appealing to a smarty-pants nerd like me.

It's a part-time gig. But when I studied the pros and cons, the advantages outweighed the disadvantages.

So. I threw together a new wardrobe. New hairstyle. Tossed a few new cosmetics in my bag. Looks good.

Researched the university. The departments. The new supervisor. I like what I've found.

Think I'm ready.

It's been a long tough road. I appreciate all of you hanging in there with me. Offering encouragement and support.

I believe this new position will pull me into my new career. My fourth movement.

I start tomorrow.  Wish me luck.
