My Backyard - Boston Freedom Tour

On my to-do list was Boston. Sure I live less than an hour away, but have I truly ever spent time exploring that big historic city? Nope. Been there many times; for seminars, museum visits, ball games, etc. But I’ve never taken the time to hit the streets and get a real close look. To absorb the history, the culture and munch on the yummy food!

My 2 fun-loving younger sisters eagerly agreed to go with me on my latest adventure. Yay!! Away we go!

An early Friday morning found us on a train heading to Boston. The forecast called for rain but we prayed it’d hold off so we could enjoy walking around without getting soaked. Lo and behold! Our prayers were answered!

In Boston we hopped aboard the subway for our first stop: the Boston Commons. At the visitor center, we joined the Freedom Trail walking tour. A woman, dressed as Paul Revere’s wife, Rachel, led us on an entertaining stroll through the streets. From the Boston Commons to Faneuil Hall. She told interesting tales of colonial times. Twelve historic sites including a stroll through the Granary Burial Ground, the final resting place of revolutionaries like Paul Revere, Samuel Adams and John Hancock. Definitely want to go back there when we have more time to look at all the gravesites.

It was quite fun walking the streets of modern day Boston following a woman attired in colonial garb! Huzzzzahhh!!!

At Faneuil Hall, we had the choice to continue on the north end of the tour or head off on our own. Hunger and shopping pangs won out! We ate at Durgin Park, a restaurant that has been in operation for almost 200 years. The plates were heaped high with delicious, comfort food like shepherd’s pie, fish, and good ole Boston baked beans.

Now we were re-fueled. The shopping began! Vendor carts, Coach, Origins, and even a store filled with rooms full of Christmas ornaments. Ho ho ho! It was so overwhelming!

We strolled through Quincy Market and oohed and ahhed at all the sights and smells of the huge variety of food. OMG! The desserts and baked goods were amazing! Giant cookies and candy! Sweet!

Next up was drinks at the bar of the Hard Rock Café. We bought matching t-shirts to commemorate the day.

We headed back to Quincy Market to pick up some of those sweet treats to bring back to our loving hubbies. With Starbucks coffee in hand, we reluctantly headed back to the train for the ride home. The day had gone by too fast! So much more we wanted to do.

On the walk to the train station, it started to rain and the wind kicked up. Thankfully, the inclement weather had held off until the end of our adventure. Huzzzahhh!!

We chatted up a storm on the ride back and before we knew it, we were home. We agreed we need another Boston excursion but it’ll have to go to the back of the line. We got other destinations waiting in the wings.

Problem is....where to next? Ladies?
